SXF 111

At Shugborough 98. Featured green-laning in snow in Legend 157.

Also featured extensively in Issue No 13 of Classic Land Rover magazine (from which these photos by Garry Stuart were taken, with thanks). Emrys Kirby's text reports that Gill & Pete Griffin have owned SXF111 for 40 years; regularly take it on green lane runs, and to gundog trials of their other passion, flat-coat retrievers.

Peter originally bought 111 as a towing vehicle for his landscape business, until it was replaced by a fleet of Transit vans, and became a family leisure vehicle. All three of Gill & Peter's children leaned to drive in the car, and in 1986 Peter drove from Cheshire to London to take part in a mass rally to try to persuade the Government to 'Keep Land Rover British' — the drive was so cold that his right foot 'froze up', and when he got to Battersea Park he couldn't stand up.

SXF111 now has a galvanised chassis, but the bodywork and running gear are original. There are holes in the leading edge of the bonnet where amber lights would originally have been fitted. Peter has the original Home Office hard top, but it's replaced by a soft top in the summer.
