SXF 123

Current Owner: Unknown
Previous Owner(s): Gary Kent

Being broken, July 01. Front numberplate and brass plate promised to Michael Burn. Front wing (with numberplate) later seen for sale at Old Sodbury Sortout by Anthony Groves (735)

The same wing was offered for sale on eBay (Jan 2011) and sold for £24, with 4 bids. Its appearance led to some discussion on the Land Rover Series One Club Forum about whether or not a complete vehicle identity could be cloned from such a small relic — it was generally decided that it was unlikely! Someone suggested that the Club should bid for it, and present the plate to Michael (the Club's Registration Officer, and owner of SXF787).

Update, December 2022

SXF123

Going through some back numbers of 'CLR', I found this photo in the July 2022 issue. It looks like it's the opposite front wing to the one above, with the rear number plate resting on top of it, and was in some parts being offered for sale at a Bolton Abbey meet. The person involved — I'm not going to name names! — said that his late father acquired it, and was going to wind me up with it the next time we met. Sadly that didn't happen. I know who has it now — again no names — so I guess he's going to try to wind me up about it. But I shall be ready for him!

The wing was put onto another Land-Rover.

Update, March 2024

I was contacted by previous owner Gary Kent, who said:
I owned [SXF123] in the late seventies/early eighties and used her for trailing with The All Wheel Drive Club. I purchased her from Tadley and was living in Woodley at the time.
Gary would love to know if the vehicle still exists in any form, but from what's above, it looks doubtful.
