In November 2022 I had an email from Mike Davis:
A bit of history on this one is that I bought it from some guys that happened to stop at our garage with it on a trailer (they having bought it from a farmer in Devon and were taking it home to repair). Looking at it, I needed a hardtop for my original Series One and on speaking to them they sold the whole thing to me. This was many many years ago and to be quite honest I was going to break it for spares for mine until I discovered what it was, hence it being left derelict for so long.
It came to me with the hard top, so I would assume that’s how it was. It appears that it was originally painted yellow as you can see under the bonnet and where paint is peeling, suggesting airfield connections possibly. It appears to be painted in grey inside but I cannot see any other markings on it. Basically this all I know about it and I am in the process of getting a registration document for it as I didn’t have one.

That is certainly an Export Hardtop (from the size of the side windows), which would suggest it was the original Home Office fitment. No easily-discernable fixings for the station detachment boards on the side, nor an aerial fixing on the roof, so probably not Reconnaisance. Barry Holliss doesn't have any details in 'The Green Machine'.
