SXF 576

Photo in Field Cable livery, with trailer, in LRSOC35.

Ken Hampson (ex CD Field Cable & Signals) wrote (July 01):

"SXF 576 is the vehicle featured in Civil Defence Handbook No.2 — Field Cable Construction. The photo shows kit stowage in LR and Brockhouse trailer. It also appears in Green Machine p.37. At the time this vehicle does not display a Divisional board on the side. This could be because it was not yet issued or was being used by one of the CD training establishments."

In 11/06 Iain McKenzie (www.fairmilerestorations.co.uk ) posted to the Series One Garage:

"A moment of excitement on a wet Friday evening coming home from work — waiting to pull out from a junction in front of me was a Land- Rover... yes, a Series 1! A swift flash of lights and he was out and away.

"Sadly I'd decided to come home in a Morris Minor rather than my Series 1 (more petrol in the Minor) so was in the wrong vehicle for an impromptu Series 1 convoy... Anyway I followed SXF 576 from Newnham Bridge to Tenbury Wells (about 4 miles) till I turned off, noting the parabolics and what looked like a Salisbury axle (was wet and dark). I assume a non-standard engine too as I was struggling to keep up at times! If the owner is on this list, thanks for brightening up my day!

"It was fitted with hard top, not sure if it had side windows or not, and had a jerry can either side of the back door on the hard top. where a little window would be on a station wagon, if that makes sense."
