SXF 624 in 2012 |
Originally saw service with Peterborough Joint Civil Defence Committee.
Advertised for sale on eBay August 2012 (along with a Brockhouse BT8 trailer) with an apparent starting price of £18K. There were no bids (!), and "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." It was re-listed.
The description was:
Very rare Land Rover Series 1 and BT8 Brockhouse trailer. SXF 624 Civil Defence/Home Office vehicle and trailer. Land Rover is near to it left the factory back in 1957. Over £6500 spent on parts (genuine nos mostly) alone in the last five and a half years. All receipts with vehicle included. Land Rover has had full new wiring harness, galvanised tank, bumper, seats, canvas, genuine leaf springs, axle straps, bump stops, shackles, shocks, full exhaust, plus manifold, headlights, side lights, rear porkpies, Lucas mirrors, Michelin XCL tyres, etc, etc.
Mileage: 69,144. Land Rover has only done 2413 miles in the last 28 years since 1984 ( looking back at old MOT dates with mileage on). Land Rover chassis, engine, gearbox, front, and rear axle all start with correct 1117 etc numbers stamped.
Brockhouse trailer in excellent sound original condition, with original brass ID plates, complete with pump, hoses, ladders, etc, etc
The seller (based in Preston, Lancashire) subsequently confirmed that he no longer had the vehicle, but didn't say where it went to.
The vehicle was originally registered to this website by Lee Wild of Stockport, with the Engine No 244201 F, which would be for a 2.25l (Series 2) engine, not 1997cc Series 1. Lee said that this is the original engine (as shown in the brown logbook), and believes it was installed for test purposes, Civil Defence being relied upon not to abuse an experimental installation. The vehicle also had military split rims from new.
From the eBay photos (below), the engine is now clearly a 1997cc one, so possibly at some time an owner didn't realise the significance of the Series 2-type engine. It's not possible from the photos to see if the rims are still split rims.
