SXF 635

Early information I had about this vehicle described it as being ex-Royal Ulster Constabulary Makrolon-Armoured. It's known that a number of SXF vehicles were transferred to the RUC, but I have considerable doubt that any of them would have been fitted with armour. This is confirmed by an ex-RUC contact.

This was one of 6 SXF vehicles (475, 487, 633, 634, 635 & 636) transferred to the Royal Ulster Constabulary when Civil Defence was disbanded. A total of 23 Land-Rovers were transferred — others had RGC etc registrations. When transferred (on or about March 19th 1968) they were given the traditional Land Rover Grey livery, whilst NYR 885 was later given a dark green with cream top livery, probably due to the fact that this vehicle was transferred to the RUC Driving School.
