SXF667

The following appeared on eBay in January 2013 from a seller in Coventry:

Series 1 88. Galvanised Rolling chassis start price £1200. Rare chance to buy one of these.
This would make a great rebuild project with all the essentials to start to build a nice Series 1. These rarely come up for sale and if not enough interest I will keep. New galvanised chassis painted black, complete with new springs, shocks, axle straps, brake pipes. Pedal shafts. Has steering relay fitted. No picture, but if you're looking at this then you know what a Series 1 chassis is.
This has been stood in my workshop for 5 or more years, buried under mountains of Land Rover parts.
The winning bidder will also get the first offer on the following: new Series 1 bulkhead, galvanised and painted in bronze green by Ashtree Services.
Also many Series 1 parts, to include amongst them:
Doors, bonnets, screens, hood sticks, rear body, front grille panels (alloy), radiators, round heaters, grilles, seat boxes, floor panels.
Engine complete, gearbox, props, two of the best front wings and tailgate & bonnet I have seen in a long time, etc etc. Various bulkhead fittings etc, and many other parts.
I would consider an offer for all in a job lot and I’ll even throw in the registration etc for a prefix SXF no plate. Veiwing recommended. e-mail first, can discuss details etc.

A previous owner was Neil Mulkeen, from Rotherham in S.Yorks. He sent me this picture from when he had the vehicle, then fitted with a Truck Cab.

Neil said "I wish I'd kept it!"

Although I 'watched' the item, it appears I didn't make a note of what happened, but the seller (Dave Todd) contacted me to say:

I bought it off Neil in Rotherham some years ago. If I do not sell, I will keep it locked away for maybe 4 or 5 years till I retire, adding more parts to finish as I go along, which is what I have been more or less doing anyway. .

It did sell — the new owner, Steve Marsh, later wrote:

I bought SXF667 off David Todd, and intend to restore it when time allows, for now it’ll have to wait in my shed. The original log book states it was blue, and it was taxed in the Reading area in its early life. So now the dilemma is, do I paint it blue, or do I paint it ‘Fire Engine’ red?
