SXF791

This vehicle was reported some years ago by Staff Dovey as having been known to be scrapped. However, in September 2009 the following appeared on eBay:

SXF791

Land Range Rover, Hybrid, Trial, Buggy, Comp Safari

Welcome to the auction for my Comp safari Hybrid. I've owned this for many years, but it's stood round for a while now and I need the space for other things. It has been on the road, it is Tax Exempt and no reason why it can't be put back on the road.

So what do you get if you're lucky enough to win? A well built vehicle of a good spec that can be used on and off road. What it now needs is TLC to bring it back to life. It does need work, I don't know how much, but you're certainly not buying a rotten hashed together contraption! I'm in no doubt you won't build one or even by the parts on it for the starting price.

Shortened Range Rover chassis to 88" wheel base, shot blasted and painted in 2 pack yellow paint. Chassis joins strengthened with diamond shaped 1/4" thick steel plates. Welded to chassis full roll cage, front wing bars and bulkhead with outriggers, 1/8th plate between out riggers and chassis and 1/4 plate between bulkhead and out riggers and all cage mounting points. Was all ARC spec at the time of construction.

Front 110 Axle with QT services 4 pin diff and extreme duty halfshafts, 110 CV joints. Range Rover diff ratio. Rear salibury axle (4 pin standard) 90/110? Range Rover diff ratio. RR front coil springs all round, Pro Comp ES9000 long travel shocks, riser blocks on rear spring mount plates to level ride height. Some poly bushes fitted, the rest of the set included still in the box. RR power steering with sleeved column to prevent collapsing. American Racing wheels with Norsman treadloc tyres 32x11.50R15LT.

Series I body work with 90 arches.Chequer plate ali rear floor. 3.9 Efi V8 Engine, good oil pressure guessing around 80K on it, was told it had done 68K when I purchased it. Fitted with remote oil filter and oil pump conversion base. Full Ashley Competition exhaust manifolds and twin box system. All standard RR Efi fuel system, ECU and loom. RR in-tank pump in fabricated tank under rear floor. Ram Air or Piper Cross filter, can't remember which!

Borg Warner 65 Auto box (not that big heavy Range Rover thing!) with an Ian Ashcroft conversion to a LR series transfer box. Transfer box also fitted with a quick shift system that allows changes between 2H and 4H whilst driving. Large auto-box oil cooler fitted under bonnet with magnetic filter. RR Brake servo and master cylinder. Adjustable bias valve for rear brakes. 110 front discs and calipers, rear drums, braided S/S hoses.

2 Fibreglass bucket seats with drivers 5 point harness and passenger 3 point, both with shoulder pads. AFFF fire extinguisher. Battery master switch with engine cut out and 2 remote pull handles fitted to cage uprights either side. Rover SD1 instrument cluster with extra gauges and tachograph as an accurate speedo. Mini heater (with screen vents) and an aerial for a radio.

There's probably more I've missed out. Things I know it needs are a battery, current one dead. A new core for the rad, current one leaking. Longer brake hoses for the long travel suspension. It has oil leaks, as all LRs do! Starts, runs, moves and stops. You would need to trailer it home to be safe. (Walsall, United Kingdom)

Just how much of the original SXF791 remained in this vehicle is a very debatable point! The vendor was looking for a Starting Bid of £2,500.00... and got no bids at all by the time the auction ended. I will make no further comment.
