SXF800

When advertising SXF800 on eBay in July 2010, the then current owner in West Devon wrote:

I've owned this old girl for 4 years now and she's pretty much original. I changed the original hardtop to a canvas tilt, other than that the seats have the original covers front and rear except for the centre cushion. The bodywork is extremely straight; the paint work is good albeit with a few chips here and there. The chassis and bulkhead are the originals but with some welded patches — however they are sound. The engine runs and pulls well.

In November 2015 I was contacted by Kevin Davies, Hampshire, who said:
Just to update your records, SXF800 has been owned by me for a few years now. She's been tidied up and lovingly maintained and is in regular use day-to-day. Two young guys, Chris and Glen at Crossaxles — a small outfit in old Alresford — are amazing with old Land-Rovers, and did a great job of refreshing the tired engine giving it its original energy back.

I've tried to keep her as original as possible, but I have conceded to some headlights that actually allow me drive at night in all weathers without fear. I understand she was most likely a hard top reconnaissance vehicle, but a previous owner removed the roof and replaced it with canvas. Some Civil Defence livery would be a great thing to give her back — if anyone has any leads, that would be much appreciated.

Once owned by Nigel Savage, Cornwall. In 'The Green Machine', Barry Holliss records that in 7/69 this vehicle was at Locharbriggs SHHD (Scottish Home & Health Dept — equivalent to the Home Office). If this was a Reconnaisance vehicle, it could explain the non-matching centre seat in the front mentioned by the original eBay seller... Reconnaisance LRs had the centre seat removed to allow for fitting a radio set, and the original seat cushion could quite easily have been lost.
