Land-Rover Videos

Graeme's speciality since 2005 has been video productions for Land-Rover enthusiasts. It started with a project to restore and re-introduce to the public the footage originally shot on the 1955 'Oxford & Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition (universally known as 'First Overland'), which hadn't been seen for 50 years. The 'First Overland' DVD has sold all around the world.

That was followed by 'Stop Gap' — the story of the birth of the very first Land-Rover as told by the man who was its midwife... Arthur Goddard. Arthur returned to the UK from Australia (where he now lives), and re-visited the Solihull factory, and many of the places where he tested the first prototype cars. There was a dinner in his honour, and tributes were paid by many enthusiasts. Arthur also busted many of the myths that have grown up around the origins of 'The World's Best 4x4xFar'.

In 2013 Land Rover marked its 65th Anniversary with 2 weeks of celebrations at Packington Hall in Warwickshire (where much of the early Land-Rover testing was done). Journalists came from all over the world, not only to see the latest products from JLR, but also to sample many of the iconic and rare vehicles from the previous 6 decades. The best of this celebration was captured on 'LR65'.

One of the most-often asked questions about 'First Overland' is "What happened to the cars afterwards?" For many years the answer was "lost!" — SNX761 ('Cambridge') crashed into a ravine in the Middle East on a later expedition, and its fate is still unknown. SNX891 ('Oxford') went to Ascension Island in the South Atlantic to support another expedition, and then to St.Helena, where it becamse little more than a pile of scrap metal. But in 2017 a very determined enthusiast from York managed to bring back the remains and painstakingly rebuild them. 'Oxford' is now back on the road, and the 'After Overland' film tracks the story, along with interviews with people who came into contact with SNX891 over the years, from the drivers on Ascension to the 12-year-old boy who welcomed them when the original expedition arrived in Singapore.
